JUNE 2010

JUNE 28, 2010--I am meeting a contributor tomorrow from Chicago who is in Northern Michigan. She's been with us since Katrina, and I can hardly wait to meet her in person rathr than virtually. We've been having lots of rain, the garden is looking beautiful; a knitting group from near me donated a lot of yarn last week. . .thanks so much.

ProudlyJune 12, 2010--Pretty cool, eh, that we are mentioned in this great new book on how we can all be philanthropists and help one another on little to no money? We're truly honored, and you all helped us realize this. . .

More good news: we are just shy of sending over 400 blankets! Thanks to all our supporters for continuing to send their remnant yarn , their squares and their kind thoughts! Special thanks the the women in the correctional facility in Ypsilanti, Michigan. They knit and crochet beautifully and have been invaluable for our project.

I am rearranging my house, so don't be surprised to see this page changing a bit too. If you're like me, when you start moving furniture either literally or figuratively, you want to move it all over--and this website is no exception. My sister is the same way; in fact, she once moved the living room around; her husband worked a late shift, and when he came home, walked through the front door in the dark (the first apartment and no sensible wiring), straight in per memory and right over the back of the newly-moved sofa. His comment was classic as he rubbed a bruised shin and forehead, "I guess she rearranged the living room." Anyway, if it rains this week and the garden doesn't call, you'll be seeing some changes.

The last batch of blankets--forty in all--went to Nashville this week. So we continue to help victims of natural disasters as promised--anywhere. Our next goal will be more blankets for Haiti and the Gulf. . . .what a mess. Here are some great ways to help if you cannot volunteer hands on--and it doesn't mean any extra expenditures:

Dawn (buy a bottle, enter the bottle code, and Dawn donates a dollar to wildlife cleanup)

Matter of Trust--They collect hair, panty hose, fur (go brush Scruffy, Spot, Puff. . . . ) for making mats to absorb the oil
