Kirtland CC - MIRID VI (with QA or BEI hours):
31th Deaf and Interpreter Biannual-Bicultural Workshop

Hello Image    Welcome to MIRID VI and KCC’s 31st workshop!

April 8-10, 2011

Snowy Bridge PictureOur Spring and Fall workshops and retreats have always offered positive memory-making moments for Deaf, interpreters, and students of all levels. The difference in the two times is duration. Our Spring event is a SILENT RETREAT...a 3 day-2 night package deal! Not only more opportunities to earn those elusive CEUs, but a chance to be a kid again and enjoy a beautiful environment in the safe company of new and old friends.

From our MIRID VI members, Kirtland CC's support team, The DODHH, gratious presenters, and our many volunteers (Deaf and hearing), we urge, encourage, and extend all our hands in welcoming you to join us for a schoolroom experience as we all get “Back to the Basics of ASL”.

Our ”Silent Retreats” are not entirely voice off... We do allow certain workshop sessions to be ”safe” places to voice or not as long as everyone can participate equally. This means when Deaf are present, we need to have everyone signing or writing notes OR asking an interpreter to intercede. Workshops are for LEARNING, and will offer full access to the information provided; hOWEVER, ”out of class” means SILENCE or donate to the BLAB jar 10 cents for each word voiced. (At end of event the money is given back to a lucky winner by a drawing of those present.

This is our 31st workshop! If you have been with us in the past, there's no need to tell you what a unique experience these weekends are. For those who have never joined in the fun and excitement, we bid you welcome to our blended world of Deaf and interpreters.

A few of the classes you will be taking are on these subjects: *Classifiers, *Non Manual Signals (NMS), *Geography, *Michigan Regional Signs, *Geography, *Music, and *Pys Ed. It Seems like a lot, but we have all weekend! AND as a bonus, we will have a true ASL film for "Popcorn and a Movie" night on Saturday.

Workshop COST: $175 total or $55.00 (workshops) for Fri-Sunday. ($125 for Two nights lodging and 5 meals is set by the Bambi Lodge.) There are motel style rooms that accomodates 2-5 each (cost is less for sharing). Meals are served by staff in a seperate cafeteria but there is also a gift shop and small grill in our meeting area. Food may be brought in to share or keep in room.

A flyer will be going out in March, but this gives you time to mark your callander, rope a friend into joining you, and save money for enrolling/investing in your ASL education. The choice rooms fill up fast so watch for the flyer (due out in March) or send a message to brenda.dawe@kirtland.edu to be included.

Thank you for considering on joining us and for continuing support.

Signingly yours,        Woman Image
