Mackinaw Bridge Welcome to Brenda Dawe’s website, created by Brenda and her son, Thomas Dawe. This website is designed to help those:
  • Interested in the American Sign Language (ASL) program at Kirtland Community College,
  • seeking to cross over communication bridges to the land of the Deaf, escorted by a professional guide,
  • Individuals or service providers (Deaf and hearing) seeking interpreter (ASL, oral, or voicing)assistance.

The term “Bridge” as used on this web page is a metaphor. The interpreters of the world act as “bridges” spanning the communication gaps between hearing and deaf worlds.

Brenda (the short version)

  • Adjunct ASL instructor at Kirtland Community College (1990+)
  • Interpreter: NAD IV under RID and NAD
  • Owns business: "Signingly Yours” Interpreting Services
  • Professional memberships: RID, MIRID, MIRID VI, ASLTA, NAD, MDA, MSD, KIRTLAND MS
  • On-line support: SWC, ASL Gloss, ASL Club, ASL Community, Teach ASL, ASL Interpreters

Brenda has created and facilitated biannual ASL/Deaf awareness Spring and Fall workshops for Kirtland and MIRID VI since 1995. Her goal has always been to show the interpreter as a bridge between the hearing and Deaf worlds. The environment at these workshops has always been bicultural-bilingual to provide equal access for all and to encourage socializing and information exchanging.. These workshops are always offered free of charge for the Deaf or hard-of-hearing participants.

Thanks for dropping by. Feel free to browse through all the associated pages and links if you like. Or send her an email.
