Brenda Dawe:
Interpreting: I became a professional interpreter in 1986 upon graduation from Mott Community College’s Interpreter Training Program (Flint, MI) and a successful acquisition of a QA from the state of Michigan. Following several more tests and 15 years experience in the field, I became nationally certified with a NAD IV in 2001. I currently freelance interpret, serving both hearing and Deaf in my bridging role of “communication equalizer” under the assumed business name of “Signingly Yours” Teaching: In 1990, I was hired to teach ASL classes at Kirtland Community College in Roscommon, MI (now into my second decade) and at Mid-Michigan Community College in Harrison, MI (where I taught for 2 years). I enjoy being one of the adjunct faculties at KCC and currently offer ASL I, II, III, and Finger-Spelling classes. I also love my work as an interpreter there when a deaf student, using ASL as the chosen language, enrolls.
I love travelling, music, writing poetry, and working/playing on computers. (E-mail is the best innovation since Ma Bell!) I am foremost a Christian, full of hope and faith and awaiting my “home going”. I believe in love, positive thinking, and networking. It gives me great pleasure being a “bilingual-bicultural” bridge between my two worlds, and I invite both Deaf and hearing to access me often and safely. My Better Half: My personal guide to the Deaf World is my husband, soul mate, and best friend, Walter Dawe. Girls, if you ever go looking for Mr. Right, be sure he loves your family. Mine did/does and has proven it daily for over 4 decades. |
