Welcome to the Criminal Justice Department!

Kirtland Community College offers a full range of criminal justice programs, from the very basics to continuing education for the seasoned officer. The Criminal Justice Department also oversees campus safety and security through the Kirtland Department of Public Safety.

Associate Degree Programs:

• Criminal Justice Pre-Service for prospective law enforcement officers (includes the 17- week police academy program)
• Corrections Administration for those who want to work in the prison system
• Criminal Justice Administration for students planning a career in a related field, such as probation and parole, dispatch or juvenile officer - Criminal Justice - Generalist, a transfer program that satisfies requirements of the MACRAO Transfer Agreement

Stand-Alone Programs:

• Kirtland Regional Police Academy - a 17-week program designed to meet minimum basictraining requirements set by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and to prepare students for the state certification examination
• Core Corrections Program - a set of five courses established to meet minimum requirements for taking the Michigan Civil Service examination for corrections officer
• Waiver of Training - law enforcement recertification training and testing
• Pre-Employment Testing - authorized site for the state's battery of written and physical agility tests

One-Year Certificate Program:

• Correctional Officer - includes the Core Corrections Program and adds a minimum of general education courses to better prepare the student for work in the prison system

Continuing Education and Adult Interest Programs:

• Law Enforcement In-Service Classes, offered at minimal cost through departmental participation in a regional training consortium
• Home Safety Firearms, designed to fulfill training requirements set by area gun boards for concealed weapons permit applicants

Campus Safety and Security:

• Kirtland Department of Public Safety provides around-the-clock security coverage for the entire campus.
